Chuck Blanchette: Building a Legacy of Impact through Purposeful Endeavors

Charles “Chuck” Blanchette is not just a nonprofit executive, sustainability advocate, and research operations leader, he’s a catalyst for meaningful change across youth development, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Throughout his diverse and purpose-driven career, Blanchette’s successful endeavors reflect a life dedicated to community transformation, visionary leadership, and mission-first innovation.

Blanchette’s story begins in Stoughton, Massachusetts, and his roots in Brockton, where he graduated from Brockton High School in 2000. Even in his early years, his involvement in the BHS Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Drama Club hinted at the multifaceted leader he would become. His academic journey took him from Massasoit Community College to a Bachelor’s degree in Communications at Bridgewater State College, a Master’s in Nonprofit Management from Lasell College, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Human Resources Management. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) in Strategy and Innovation at Capella University, a testament to his lifelong learning and strategic mindset.

Chuck’s professional and philanthropic career has been deeply shaped by his passion for Scouting and outdoor education. As an Eagle Scout, he went on to serve as Scoutmaster of Troop 10 in Brockton, General Manager of New England Base Camp, and a 14-year veteran of Wah-Tut-Ca Scout Reservation. His leadership transformed traditional Scouting into modern, accessible programs for youth across New England. In 2021, his enduring service was recognized nationally with the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (NOESA).

As the CEO of The Key Foundation, Blanchette has turned vision into impact. Under his stewardship, the foundation has significantly expanded its reach. Notable initiatives include:

· The Patrick L. Doyle NOAC Scholarship, providing financial aid to Scouts attending leadership conferences.

· The Andrew Curry Green Lake Swim, a powerful annual fundraiser that has raised over $200,000 since 2016 in memory of a 9/11 victim and devoted Scouter.

· The Diane Livoli Scholarship honors outstanding leadership and community service by providing financial support to college-bound staff. The scholarship is designed to help recipients continue their education while encouraging their return to summer camp employment.

· The Vervaet Program Grants, offering up to $1,000 to other nonprofit youth serving organizations to enhance their programs.

These programs have supported youth leadership, outdoor education, and Scouting values while strengthening community partnerships across the region.

But perhaps one of Blanchette’s most innovative and nationally recognized contributions is in healthcare sustainability. At Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH), he leads the Green Labs Program, an award-winning initiative that emphasizes environmental stewardship in research and clinical operations. He also co-chairs the Environmental Sustainability Employee Lead Group (ELG) and has launched several groundbreaking programs.

· BCH Research’s “Shut the Sash” Fume Hood Competition, which helped BCH win the International Fume Hood Challenge.

· Launched an enterprise-wide Lab Plastics Recycling Program, further reducing waste in research labs.

· The creation of the BCH Green Labs Certification Program which supports and encourages sustainability compliance.

· Leadership in BCH’s four consecutive wins in the I2SL and My Green Lab International Freezer Challenge, positioning the hospital as a national leader in green healthcare research.

These achievements directly contribute to BCH’s ambitious goals of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050.

In addition to his institutional roles, Chuck is a published author. His co-authored book, Camping with the Spirit of Adventure (2019), documents the history and evolution of outdoor leadership in New England. The book not only preserves the legacy of Scouting but also celebrates its ongoing relevance in youth development today.
